Drew Brown has reported on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq since 2001, first as a correspondent for Knight Ridder Newspapers and since 2007 as a reporter and photographer for Stars and Stripes.
As a Knight Ridder correspondent, he covered the war in Afghanistan in 2001 and 2002 and the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003. As a reporter and photographer for Stars and Stripes, he spent a year covering U.S. combat operations in Iraq. Since 2008, he has worked in Afghanistan, covering U.S. and allied combat operations mostly in the southern part of the country.
Brown has covered military affairs almost exclusively for more than a decade. From 1999 to 2001, he was the military and veterans affairs reporter for The Macon Telegraph in Macon, GA. He started in journalism as a reporter for The Times-Georgian in Carrollton, GA in 1997. He has reported from Afghanistan, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Kuwait, the West Bank, Bosnia, and Panama.
Brown served as an airborne infantryman in Company A, the 1st Battalion, the 75th Ranger Regiment from 1989 to 1993, and is a combat veteran of Operation Just Cause, the 1989 invasion of Panama.
